El-Salem Mosque Design Project
The El-Salem community in Des Moines knew how to build, but they asked for some help to plan how to get the new mosque they had raised the money to build. With a site twenty minutes outside of town, in Granger, they decided to locate their new home. It was very important, as part of this project to learn from the community the best functioning the of the space, to create a beautiful building that incorporated the forms associated with tradition, and to design to the abilities of the members of congregation.
